On Saturday, we all rented snowmobiles and spent the afternoon touring the mountains north of Breckenridge. We stopped at several old settler's sites, this cabin being one of them. We couldn't imagine living all year long in this remote location, especially when the snow became ten feet deep. How did they even exit the doorway when the snow was so deep?
We rode to the top of Georgia Pass, which is marks the watershed at the Continental Divide at 11, 585 feet above sea level. The water either goes west to the Pacific Ocean, or east toward the Atlantic Ocean from this point, depending on which side of the divide it falls upon! The scenery was fantastic, crystal blue skies, green pine trees, and sparkling white snow...breathtaking! Lisa said it was the most adventurous experience she had ever had!!
On the rest of the days in Breckenridge, we hit the slopes, that is, all except Monday, the day it was 20 some degrees below zero! Lisa and Mikey had to return to Chicago, so while Evan drove them down to Denver, we spent the day with Maia and Ella at the Breckenridge Aquatic Center. It had some great slides and a lazy river!
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we took the gondola up the mountain, to Peaks 8 and 9, and spent the day cruising the green runs with the girls. Evan and Wes, the two guys....decided that they did deserve a few black runs, and so they took off a few times to the top to try a few more challenging runs once and a while, leaving just us girls practicing our turns on our own!
I think the girls thought that the stop at the crepe station on Main Street on their last night in Breckenridge may have been one of their highlights of the trip. They both enjoyed some warm yummy chocolate crepes, which they not only got inside their mouths, but all over their faces, and snow suirts! Sure was worth it!
A Great Trip!
